The A400M Retrofit Project, overseen by the Ministry of National Defense, aims to enhance the capabilities of A400M aircraft. The retrofit activities are being carried out at the 2nd Air Maintenance Factory Directorate in Kayseri.

Initially, the plan focuses on retrofitting nine A400M aircraft belonging to the Turkish Air Force Command, with four aircraft already completed. Upon completion of the Turkish Air Force inventory, the retrofit operations can be extended to aircraft from other countries.

The Ministry of National Defense signed a contract with ASFAT, a state-owned company responsible for military factories and shipyards in Turkey, to undertake the retrofit operations. ASFAT subsequently subcontracted the task to the 2nd Air Maintenance Factory Directorate (2nd AMFD), which operates under the Military Factories General Directorate (MFGD) in Kayseri. This collaboration ensures the efficient execution of the A400M aircraft renovation process.

The 2nd AMFD, situated within the Kayseri region, specializes in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations for a range of military and private aircraft. Equipped with modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment, the facility boasts a highly skilled workforce comprising engineers, technicians, and mechanics experienced in working with various aircraft types. In addition to military aircraft, the 2nd AMFD also handles helicopters, agricultural spraying aircraft, and small privately-owned planes.

The partnership between ASFAT, the Ministry of National Defense, and AIRBUS ensures that the retrofit operations remain within Turkey. This initiative supports the local economy by generating an annual retention of 125 million Turkish liras, providing economic benefits while enhancing the country’s aerospace capabilities.
